@fionayeduardo

FIONAYEDUARDO are a team of photographers and film directors based in New York & LA.

Eduardo’s love of cinematic lighting and film and Fiona’s love of whimsy and storytelling come together to create one collaborative vision.

“We were both attracted to photography as a medium to capture both the beauty of the people we see and the realities we can create in front of the camera.”

What social / political issues are the most important to you?

Immigration is a key issue for us. Eduardo is a Mexican citizen so this issue is a personal one. It’s been especially difficult to watch families being ripped apart and children being lost and subjected to an unfathomable amount of psychological damage that will last a lifetime all in the name of…border safety? The other two issues we feel most strongly about are wealth inequality and global warming/environment protection.

How would your utopian future world look like?

We have a child so we do spend a fair amount of time thinking about the future. The world we want for our child is the one you’re sold when your young. We want a healthy planet full of life where everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed based on their talent and perseverance and not their zip code or skin color. We want our child to grow up healthy in a place that feels safe where they can pursue an education and spend their adult years not crippled by an insurmountable amount of debt that follows them for the rest of their life.

What keeps you sane in this insane world?

Working is what keeps us sane, for a number of reasons. As a freelancer, working is literally the way we survive but beyond that it’s also our way of being able to project and manifest our idealized vision of the world that we can then share with others. Between social media, news, and personal things that happen in life, our goal with our work is always to provide a glimmer of light into a not so terrible universe where good and beautiful things exist. It’s an escape from the bounds of reality to the ones we can create and control more completely.

What does beauty mean to you?

As photographers we find beauty is everywhere and in everything. It’s just a matter of being able to peel back the bad and focus on the good.

What do you see as your biggest challenge?

There’s so many advantages to working together as a team. Our work is truly a collaboration of both our skill sets and passions but even still our greatest challenge is making this a sustainable career. Every day is a challenge to find the opportunity but we remain very optimistic for the future and all the possibility it brings.
